Homework
At Oak Farm, we believe homework should be purposeful, manageable and supportive of children’s learning, while recognising the importance of family time and children’s wider interests. Our priority is the regular practice that makes the greatest difference, including daily reading, spelling and opportunities to practise key maths skills. Alongside these essentials, children may receive short activities linked to their wider curriculum learning, designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and opportunities to share learning at home.
We do not want homework to become a source of unnecessary pressure for children or families. Where children need additional practice or support, this is carefully identified and, wherever possible, supported through teaching and intervention in school. We also value children’s effort: homework is shared and celebrated through opportunities such as our Homework Gallery, where pupils can see one another’s work and give positive feedback.
Our aim is to achieve the right balance: building strong learning habits and reinforcing essential knowledge and skills, while allowing children time to rest, play, explore and enjoy life beyond school.
